Knitting for the Silver

Three Cadettes from Troop 3623 in Centreville, Virginia, are working on their Silver Award, which is the highest award for Cadette Girl Scouts. The girls are organizing an event for TOGA (The Older Girls of Ashgrove) to come and learn to knit. The knitting event of 75-80 girls and leaders will consist of learning to cast-on and garter stitch. The new knitters will then be asked to knit four-inch squares that will be donated to Our Cabaña. The squares will be made into vests and blankets for the children and adults up in the mountains of Mexico. Our Cabaña is a residential program centre, one of four world centres owned by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. Each centre offers a unique Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting experience, influenced by the culture of the country and the international composition of the staff members.
The girls from Troop 3623 would like to ask you to knit four-inch squares to donate (With size 8 needles and worsted weight acrylic, cast on 17 sts and knit every row for 4². Bind off) as well as to volunteer to teach knitting on October 19th, at Camp Crowell in Vienna, to help earn their Silver Award. We need at least twelve teachers for each session. You can teach at just one session, two sessions or all three. Thank you for your contribution to Girl Scouting.

Sincerely,
Jenni Blair, Jessica Havens, Kelsey Williams
